The Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC) through the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the Commission on Filipinos Overseas (CFO) – all major partners in Bangon Western Visayas Project – gifted the Magagmay nga Kristianong Katilingban Consumers Cooperative (MKKCC) with a Php 250,000.00 Seed Fund last March 21, 2016. The Bangon Western Visayas Project, conceptualized within the framework of Joint Migration and Development Initiative (JMDI), with a website platform (www.bangonwesternvisayas.com) was launched to “maximize the important roles of local government units, non-government organizations, civil societies, private sector, and overseas Filipinos in supporting local development initiatives, specifically in disaster risk-reduction and mitigation projects in calamity and disaster prone areas of Western Visayas”. The project provides a venue for migrant Filipinos around the world help communities devastated by super-typhoon Yolanda/ Haiyan last November 8, 2013.
Indeed, it is literally a “seed fund” meant to jumpstart the initiatives of partner communities rebuild their lives after the devastation. The fund would contribute to the infant consumer cooperative that is designed to provide them sustainable source of income in the long-term, while championing their sense of ownership and economic empowerment. The Center for Rebuilding Initiatives for Social Empowerment (RISE) and the Jaro Archdiocesan Pastoral Secretariat (JAPS) facilitate the organizational and educational enhancement of MKK Consumers Cooperative.
